Upcylce Project #1 Maternity Dress
Okay, so up close it definitely looks like a "first project" article of clothing. I was super lazy on the hem, and apparently pretty bad at hemming knit fabric. The band in the center isn't perfect either, so I pinned some fabric flowers on to cover the imperfections. I'm going to attach the flowers to pin backs so I can choose not to wear them if I want a cardigan or belt instead. All in all, though, a success!
I had a floor length maxi dress that I never wore, because the top half was a no go. I hacked the top off and sewed the skirt to the top half of a black tank top. It was that easy, and by that easy I mean took me forever. Definitely an easy project considering I didn't have to start from scratch. However, I read the tutorial a little too quickly and had to retrace my steps after the first attempt. I put it together in a couple hours, and then put it together again in a few more. I am proud of myself for taking on knit as my first project. Now I want a serger, lol. Which of course will probably never happen. Definitely happy with the outcome though, and thankful for the tutorial!
Just got back from fireworks, and the hubby is home from work so I need to fill him in on how adorable Libby was.
